GETTING FROM THE AIRPORT



We can organise airport transfers and put the cost on your room account

There are a number of bus companies that run transfers to and from the airport. We use a company called Eclipse because they have proved extremely reliable and popular with our guests. And when they are not available then we use another great company called Exemplar. If you would like us to book a transfer for you we will do so and put the cost on your room account. You can order your transfers online when booking, or provide the details we require

Exemplar - $41 per person one way  - children are half price (children are 12yrs and younger)



Port Douglas is 70 km north of Cairns and is a beautiful scenic drive


Port Douglas is 70 km north of Cairns and is a beautiful scenic drive If you are self-driving, Port Douglas is easy to find: Turn right at the airport exit road and simply keep going north on the Captain Cook Highway until you see the turn off for Port Douglas. The drive takes about one hour and once you leave Cairns, the view is break-taking. Our resort is also easy to find: Follow the entry road in to Port Douglas right to the end. Turn right on Macrossan Street (the main street of Port Douglas) and By the Sea Port Douglas resort is just a few metres down on the left .

We love telling you where to go and how to get there

Our guest services desk is open every day of the year except Christmas Day (from 8am – 5.30pm & Sundays until 2.00pm) to provide all possible assistance and advice to make your stay as perfect as possible.  This includes expert and impartial advice on where to eat, get the best cup of coffee, places to explore and identifying which tour options  suit your needs the best.


We book your tours and put the cost on your room account

We not only provide impartial advice on which tour operators to choose but we take the hassle out of booking tours by booking them for you.  The cost goes on your room account to be paid in one go on your departure.  There is no additional cost for this service.


                    Generally best to book when you arrive

The weather has a large determining factor on which day is best to visit the reef or the rainforest and the weather in the tropics is notoriously changeable. As a consequence we recommend that that when possible you leave the booking of any tours until you arrive and we have an idea of what the weather is doing. However if you are only here for a couple of days and concerned about missing out and/or prefer to make tour bookings in advance, then we do urge you to still get us to book your tours pre-arrival. We have strong relations with all the tour operators and should we need to change the date of any booking to suit the weather upon arrival, it will be much easier to do so if we have made the booking for you.

Please note we are also very happy to provide tour advice before your arrival.

MONEY MATTERS




Booking directly with us will save you money

The price of accommodation is significantly cheaper if you book directly with our resort. The reason for this is that we have to pay 15% commission on bookings made via other online booking sources. You can book directly on our web site, via live chat on our web site,
or by phone or E mail.


No deposit is generally required

We do not take any deposit on receipt of your booking unless you are booking a room for 10 days or more or booking more than one room. In such instances we do take a 20% deposit.



You can pay in a Variety of Ways

You pay for your accommodation on arrival and can choose to pay either by master card, visa or debit card or cash. If you would like to pay in advance by online bank transfer that is welcomed as well (if interested in this option please contact us for bank account details).

Please note that Credit card payments attract a 1% surcharge.


CANCELLATION POLICY


We strongly recommend travel insurance

 

If you cancel within 14 days of your booked date of stay, we will certainly make every effort to re-rent your room.  Should we be successful in re-renting your room, we will happily consider refunding the *net profit to you upon request.   However it can be hard to sell a room “last minute” and we will only be able to do so at a heavily reduced “last minute bargain” price,  so getting anything like a full refund is highly unlikely. So we strongly recommend that you obtain travel insurance to cover for any unforeseen circumstances.

*The net profit being the income received from re-renting your room minus any commission payable to the booking site through which you booked and additional cleaning costs resulting from multiple re-rents during the time you are booked.

Our Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your booking before 14 days of your booking date you will only be charged an administrative fee of $35**. If cancelled or modified 14 days or less of your booking date, or in the case of a no-show, the total price of the price of the reservation will be charged.


**If you booked directly with us, or if you cancel and rebook, this administrative fee will NOT be charged





ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES





Room check in time is 1.30pm

However, if you arrive earlier in Port Douglas you are welcome to check in at any time after 8am:  Whilst your room may not be ready, you are most certainly our guest the moment you arrive with full use of our facilities. 

We have areas for your to change in to your tropical clothes, we have secure storage areas for your luggage and we are full of ideas on lovely ways to enjoy your time until your room is ready.



Room check out time is 10am

Because we all but full pretty much  every day of the year, it is rare that we can provide a check out time later than 10am because we have to get your room ready for the next person checking in 1.30pm.  Sorry.

However if you are not leaving Port Douglas until later in the day the same applies as early arrivals: We can store your luggage for you and you have full access to our facilities (albeit without a room) until you leave Port Douglas and our resort.

HOUSEKEEPING MATTERS




Room Service

A complimentary room service is provided to those staying 7 days or more on the 4th or 5th day of every week that you stay. We also provide a complimentary daily rubbish removal service and also change your bath and beach towels as often as you require.

Should you wish to have additional/daily room services, these are available at an additional cost.


Laundry Services

We have a guest laundry on site complete with commercial driers and washing machines.

And rooms that have separate bedrooms and Studio 44 have their own private laundry facilities.

We provide a lot of free items so please take note of what is available when you arrive to avoid unnecessary packing.

ARE WE THE RIGHT RESORT FOR YOU?




The first and most critical step in ensuring that you stay is a blissfully happy one with us girls at By the Sea, is for you to ensure that our resort suits not only your requirements but ALSO those who you are travelling with.

We rarely have any guest arrive and be less than very happy with what we provide. However that does not mean we suit everyone. Individual tastes and requirements obviously can vary considerably and a happy holiday at By the Sea Port Douglas starts with you ensuring we provide what you want!

Hence the reason we stress the following:

We provide quality comfort but not luxury

We are an accredited 4 star resort. This means that we provide quality comfort but we certainly do not provide luxury. If you want luxury then you need to be staying at a 4.5 or more likely 5 star resort.

We do not have a lift but will assist with luggage

Few resorts in Port Douglas have a lift with the reason being that most resorts are not allowed to be more than three stories high. We are two stories high but have three levels (ground floor, first floor and second floor). We will assist you with luggage but if a lift is essential to you then you should look at the couple of 5 star resorts in port Douglas that have one.

We provide excellent customer service but it is not 24hrs


Our customer services desk opens at 8am seven days a week (except Christmas) and when open you will receive great service. However it is not open 24 hours a day. Like most resorts in Port Douglas we close at 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and close at 2.00pm on Sundays

Daily room service is available but is not included in the price

Like most resorts in Port Douglas we do not include daily room cleaning in our tariff. If you would like additional/daily room services we can provide them but at an additional cost which varies according to the room type booked.

We have a lovely heated pool but it is not Olympian

Our pool is of a standard size in Port Douglas.  It is heated, kept clean and well- presented and enjoyed by guests particularly after spending time in the biggest pool of all just metres away from our resort – the Coral Sea.  Our pool  is not huge though – please see the photo provided in the free extra’s tab above if pool size is very important to you.
